In the past save the date cards were viewed as purely optional or a frivolous unnecessary expense. In recent years this expendable piece has become an essential part of the wedding stationery package.

Renowned etiquette coach and wedding planner Shaun Tiffany Adeoye attributes this new necessity  to  economic change. “The growing bustle of the new working family has heightened  the need for advance notice. It is no longer optional but moreover discourteous when one does not provide it.”

While save the dates started as a wedding-related custom, it is now used by individuals, businesses, and organizations to announce the date of any formal event, ranging from wedding anniversaries to grand opening ceremonies.  Invitation and stationery company Lovie’s Letter Paper Co. is offering a special 15% discount through August 6th to help budgeting brides and business owners alike– ease this key component into their budgets.
